For all of the high school graduates who are looking to enroll in a computer science school, you have a decision to make. You have 1 path out of 4 to choose from as a major.

Why is Finding Love So Hard?

When we are looking for love, sometimes we are looking in the wrong places. We sometimes mistaken a friendly gesture with that being a sign of love, and when we investigate, our hearts are broken. You see that beautiful girl smiling at you across the street, and when you approach her she says she is seeing someone else. And the words that get us the most is when a girl says, "Lets just be friends."

If you do become successful in finding love, how can you keep the love burning? This is the subject of another topic.

End of College Quarter

It has finally came. It is the end of the college quarter at my school. The research papers and projects have been turned-in. The final exams have been completed, but we can't say that school is out for summer because summer has passed. The fall television line-up has started. Ready for football? Yes I am. It is getting a little cool outside at night and early morning. We got to get our jackets ready. But anyway... It's the end of the college quarter. I love quarters.

Uncle Bernie

I am deeply sadden about the passing of comedian/actor Bernie Mac. I saw his comedy and watched his television. They really gave me a laugh. When I heard the bad news, I was in disbelief at first, but know I it was true.

I will miss you Bernie Mac.

City Stages Alabama

Today is the official start of City Stage in Birmingham, AL. The music festival top acts will be: Sean Kingston, Diana Ross, The Roots, Al Green, and many more.

This festival has been in going on for many years now, and it seems to get better every year. There are always thousands in attendance.

My only gripe is the price. It's expensive to get in and the price of food is no better. But if you like entertainment don't be discouraged not to attend.

My Music Interest

I first became interested in music as a little. My family would play records and listen to the radio when we not watching television. I was exposed to music in every kind of ways. Artists I can name off the top of my head that I was exposed to as a chilld include: The Temptations, Paula Abdul, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rodgers, Aerosmith, New Edition, and MC Hammer.

In school I joined the marching band, and I was exposed to even more music. Also I had the Disney Television Channel. On Disney there were two musical shows, Kids Incorporated and The Mickey Mouse Club. I wanted to be a part of those shows so bad. I got a chance to be on the Mouse Club, but I was only a audience member.

Now I call myself a Disc Jockey. I may not be a hired DJ, but I'm still one. I own lots of music, and I'm self-studying on how to beat match. My goal is to get into the entertainment business, and I'm not giving up that goal, no matter what people say.

That's my music background. I also sing and dance.

If there's a topic that I feel uncomfortable about, it will not get posted. These open suggestions will be accepted until the end of this year.

This will start now.

Why?

Being African-American myself, I ask the question, "Why can't some black people get along with each other?"
Our ancestors came from Africa with nothing, suffer racial treatment, and fought for our right to be free.
Now that we are somewhat free, we want to kill each other, steal from each, and gossip about each other.
We are also teaching our children to do the same, but they are worser than we are.
If you look at them a certain way or step on their shoes by mistake, they want to mess with you.
Why people?

Langston Hughes' Mother to Son

Well, son, I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
It's had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor --
Bare.
But all the time
I'se been a-climbin' on,
And reachin' landin's,
And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on the steps
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
Don't you fall now --
For I'se still goin', honey,
I'se still climbin',
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.

Motivators

R. Eli Bremer, 2008 U.S. Olympic Team, Modern Pentathlete.

When I was four years old, I met an Olympian for the first time. He sat next to me on an airplane and talked to me for two hours about the Olympics and what it meant to him. That athlete planted a dream in me that changed my life.

Now, 25 years later, that dream is fulfilled. But only partially-I qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games by winning the gold medal in the modern pentathlon at last summer's Pan American Games. A lifetime of sacrifice, hard work and discipline paid off with the opportunity to compete in the greatest sporting event on the planet. Seeing the United States flag raised over all others and hearing my national anthem played was a moment I will never forget.

But there was another moment the day I made the Olympic Team that stands even stronger in my mind. Running is the final event in the pentathlon, and I am one of the fastest pentathlon runners in the world. Before running started, I already had a lead, giving me a virtual lock on the gold medal and a berth on the U.S. Olympic Team. As I bent down to tie my shoe at the starting line, it struck me that what was about to happen was not about me, it was about all the other people who got me there. From my wife to my parents, coaches and financial supporters, to the athlete I met as a four-year old, they all had selflessly paid a heavy price for me to be standing here. And as I stood alone on the starting line half a world away, I realized that they were all there with me, cheering for me and excited as I was for what was about to happen. It was one humbling and exhilarating experience of my life.

Stuck on the toilet

I was listening the other day about a lady who got stuck on her toilet. She was afraid to go outside of her home, so in defiance, she chose to sit and stay on her toilet. But when it came time that she had to get up a leave, she got stuck. Like I said in a previous post, "you got to live life". I don't care if life throws you lemons. Make lemonade. It it throws you rocks, make a rock garden. I know it must have been a bad feeling, being stuck on the toilet. People, please don't end up this way. Stay safe now.

Trying To Get Away

Yesterday I was watching headline news. There was this police chase that lasted an whole hour. The suspect led the cops all around the city in L.A., trying to get away from them. There were times in which he almost wrecked and put other people lives in danger. It is impossible to out run the law. Sooner or later you will get caught. Just as this guy tried to do with the police, some of us do the same with life. When we caught, we are not free anymore. So my advice is to live life instead of running away from it. Everybody please stay safe, and think before you leap.

An Olympic Mind

Here is a snippet of a motivation letter I received from 2007 World Track Cycling Champion, Sarah Hammer. I hope you find this motivating.

"It' hard to believe that in five months our United States Olympic Team will be under the spotlight, performing in front of the biggest television audience ever - anticipated to be four billion people.

I think of something much greater. I think of my country.

You see, the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, this August will put the spotlight on all Americans.

Although I am currently the reigning World Track Cycling Champion, I know that my past achievements have intensified the pressure on me to perform. There are many incredibly gifted and determined athletes in my sport who want to win as well.

And the situation is no different for our swimmers, archers, pole-vaulters, decathletes , and gymnasts. In every sport, we face formidable challenges. China is putting together an incredibly strong team, as are Russians, Australians, and Germans, just to name a few.

To win in Beijing, we have to train harder than we ever have before. We have to stay healthy, even as we push ourselves to the limit."

The Bug

It has been affecting people all over the nation. No one is safe from it. The flu is a bad virus. I had it last year, and this year a lot of people who I know has gotten it. If you get it, you should see a doctor immediately. Do that could save you a whole lot of time suffering. He or she should know what medicines to give you because you will not be the only one with the virus who came to see them. As for me I wish I would have seen my doctor earlier. I had to just tough up until I could not take the suffering anymore. So if you do get the flu bug, act fast, and don't wait for it to cure itself.
Stay safe everyone.

The Need For Extra Money

It's kinda hard when you need some extra cash to fill your pocket and can't get it. There are so many things in the United States that can drain your money such as: bills, taxes, social clubs, stores, and people. This is just a small listing. Day by day you just look for your break-through. You might try hustling or you might go put in applications at different places. To everyone struggling with finances, all I can say is don't give up, you day will soon come.

Memories Up In Flames

The other day was a sad day for many. A old historical site caught on fire. The place has been around for years, and many people worked and played there. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to go visit it before it caught on fire. A local news station had online streaming video of the fire, and I could do was watch and chat with other watchers using a built-in chat on the site.

Black smoke poured in the sky as multiple fire departments used the surround and drown technique on the fire. But after a short the smoke was all white, and the fire was dying. A few pumper trucks stayed on the scene until the whole fire was out, to call it a day. No one got hurt though. To all the crew that was on the scene, Good Job !

Mix and mingle

To get anywhere in this world today, you have to learn how to mix and mingle with others. People can help or hurt you, but they can do neither if you avoid them. Sometimes being alone makes you depressed, but in the company of another, you night could turn into day. Answer this question: Would you like leaving this world not known by anyone? Get up. Get out. Meet somebody.

Yard Day

I have been trying to learn how to do some landscaping, but the only thing that I was successful at learning was how to kill ants. I was little scared at first when I came in contact with a giant ant bed. I poured some insect powder all around and on it. Those ants started coming out of the bed as if the American Ant Idol rejects were doing a duet. Do ants watch TV? I got out of their way fast. I hope the powder works in getting rid of them.

V Day

Today was a day in history. It was the day to vote for your presidential candidate and delegates. When I went to my local, there was a huge crowd of people. Young folks, old folks, men, and women showed out. As the votes come in and as the last one is counted, may the best man or woman win.

The Circus

When I was little, I used to beg my folks to take me to the circus every year. I'd want to meet the performers in the circus, but I knew I couldn't unless I had a pass or was a member. If I became a member of the circus, I would have wanted to become a clown, because the the other jobs seemed dangerous or nasty(scooping up poop). As I got older my interest grew a little smaller. Now my biggest interest in on the circus animals. I heard about the circus doing an animal walk when they arrive in each city they will perform in. I might not want to go to a show, but I would surely like to see the circus animals walk through my town. I'm trying to contact the circus corporate office to find out when this event is scheduled, but it seems like everyone is trying to keep it hush hush.
I'm no animals right protester or animal hater. I'm just want to see something different and entertaining for a while in my city. Aw well, I'll guess I will go buy a ticket to see the show.

Snow Day Freak Out

It snowed where I lived. People freaked out because it doesn't normally snow in the deep south. Children and adults both were having snowball fights, making snow-angels, and creating snowmen. Local news crews were giving live updates and interviewing people all around. That evening everything came to a halt. The snow that everyone was looking forward to melted. I went outside to get my mail and almost slipped. Good thing I had on rubber shoes. To the little ones, this was a day in history. To the older folks, this was an excuse for going out of town to visit their family.

Class back in session

College classes just started back. The seniors are wishing that this term will end fast as possible. The freshmen are wondering how their classes will be and will they make any new friends. As for me, in between, I just want to see my friends again, pass my new classes, and have some fun. Time to start studying again and burn some midnight oil. Night classes this time.

A Fresh Dose of Italy

Today I went to an Italian restaurant for lunch. I ordered the chicken alfredo. There was lots of people in there. My waitress was so kind and welcoming. It took a little while for my order to come out of the kitchen, but I was alright with that. I hade some garlic-butter bread sticks and an Italian style salad to hold me. As I sat at my table, I looked around at the other customers and listened to the opera music in the background. I finally was served my order, and it was mouthwatering and delicious. So much was put out my plate that I had to get a doggy bag. Mama Mia! That was Great!
Check please. Here's your tip.

Rain Go Away

I called out a fence company to come and put a 5 foot steel fence around my house. They gave me a great offer, so I gave them my address and they came out. They were in a truck that look like the one's that be at graveyards. On it were the fence poles and a hold digger. The men dug up holes around my yard, placed the poles in, and poured cement in the holes. They said they will be back in a few days if it didn't rain to finish the job. The men left the cement to dry, so the poles would stay in place when they come back.

Tonight I was outside looking at the job the guy did, and I was saying to myself, "They should be back tomorrow." Right at the end of that thought, I felt a raindrop hit my head and then another one. The next thing I knew was it was raining. I just stood there, getting soaking wet, asking myself why. I went back inside, and turned my on the the weather channel. The forecast read rain for tomorrow, Friday, and Sunday. I want to get this fence up, but I can't until it stops raining and the ground dries. Well you can't always get what you want. Especially when you want it.

Favorite Shows

In the mist of the writer's strike some of my old favorite shows are coming back on television. Night Rider and American Gladiator. I can't believe it. I know these shows are going to have a different cast, but I still like them. American Gladiator has already came back. It's on NBC. I forgot what channel it used to come. When I was little, I wanted to go see the show live, but I never got a chance to go to Universal Studios before it went off the air. Maybe now I can go now when I get some vacation time and enough traveling money.

Night Rider, on the other hand, does not have a live show. I sure wish I could have a car just like night rider. I'll tell it to drive me this and that place. I'll fight crime. Also I'll be the talk of the town. :-)
Just dreaming.

Chat Away

I was in an internet chat-room the other day, chatting with some people around the U.S. We was telling each other what we do for a living and about the places where we live. All of a certain this new person comes into the room. We greeted him or her, and this person replied back to us in Spanish. Next thing we knew, we were having a conversation in Spanish. But I really don't Speak much Spanish, so I asked this person in Spanish, "?Habla English?" (Do you speak English) Then poof, he or she left the room. The room started back our English conversation, and the the person came back and left over and over again. We didn't know if someone were playing with us or what. We just ignored this person, and when we all decided to leave the room, we left this trickster in their alone. If this happens again, they might get reported. People can't have a decent conversation anymore in chat-rooms anymore.

Day of frost

Today when I went out, I saw that I forgot to bring my plants inside the house. Jack Frost got they, but I hope I can still save them. I going to try putting them in the sunlight tomorrow. If that doesn't work, then bye bye plants. You lived a good plant life.

So I went to Wal-Mart aka Wally World today to find some bargains on marked-down Christmas items. I found a few things in the store that I decided to purchase. I also ran into lots of beautiful women too, but Jack Frost got me too. I froze. I looked at them. They looked at me. Nothing was said, so bye bye phone number. Bye Bye new potential date.

2008 Is Here

It's another year. My neighbors were trying to shoot out 2007 on New Years morning. I kinda felt like I was in Iraq (Props goes out to the men and women fighting in Iraq). I have not made any resolutions for the new year because I know I won't keep them, but I have set guidelines for myself:

1. Show more love to people around me.
2. Start having more me time.
3. Pray more.
4. Always look on the brighter side of things.
